Administrators Press Release

The 2012 Churchill Fellowships have just been announced and Duncan Evans is one of the 115 recipients throughout Australia.

Duncan has won the Churchill Fellowship for the project of “Container unloading methods at small, isolated islands.”

Obviously this project by Duncan will be of enormous benefit to Norfolk Island as the issue of containerisation and the cheaper importation of freight to this Island is of major importance.

On applying Duncan stated that this project was “to gain practical and firsthand knowledge of the various methods that are used to unload and load containers from supply ships at open roadstead anchorages (where no wharf exists that a ship can berth) at small, isolated islands.”

“On behalf of the community I would like to congratulate Duncan on not only winning this Churchill Fellowship, but in putting forward a project of vital importance to this community, I wish him well in his travels to other small islands to gain knowledge,” said his Honour the Administrator Neil Pope.

Norfolk Island residents have been very fortunate to have received Churchill Fellowships almost every year since 1986. Later this year we will be advertising for applicants for the 2013 year.

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, which was established after the death of Sir Winston Churchill, has now funded more than 3,700 fellowships for Australians

Churchill Fellowship

In 2012 I have been awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to gain practical knowledge of the methods used to load and unload containers from supply ships at small, isolated islands.

This blog will be about my travels to

to do my research.
